No one plays this heavenly gem the way de Larrocha does. Granted, she romanticizes it but when the Sisyphean cantabile melody reaches into the higher notes, she creates an emphatic crescendo that is incredibly moving.

Thank you for sharing! Who could play Albéniz better than a talented Spanish pianist?

the great pianist Blanche Selva who premiered Iberia initially said to Albeniz that it was "unplayable"...it was for most pianists until De Larrocha 'tore it up'!

This is my go-to recording of both of these pieces. My teacher Julianne McLean used to say she was “five foot nothing,” with stubby fingers and amazing sound. This recording is much better than the later one of hers that I have on CD, no question, although that one is also beautiful but just not quite the same.

For me both renditions are equal. Only the life performance from 1982 sounds a little " far away". I never heard this work better played than by AdL.
